Language School > IT Job, thoughts?

Hi everyone,

I’m a current university student (21 yo) in the US, entering my last year, and I’ll be graduating in May 2025 with a BA in IT & Informatics. My ultimate goal is to work in Tokyo, as I’ve heard the IT industry in Japan can be a good option for me.

Unfortunately, my school’s IT program hasn’t provided me with many practical technical skills needed for an IT job, so I plan to pick up coding/programming skills and certifications over the next year.

Given that I don’t know any Japanese and have no work experience, I’m considering attending a language school in Japan after I graduate while continuing to develop my technical skills. I’m also starting to self-study Japanese and will be taking a Japanese class this fall to prepare.

How feasible is this plan? I’ve read that working in the US for a few years and then transitioning internally within a company to Japan might be the best route, but I wasn’t able to secure any internships and my job prospects after graduation seem bleak.

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
