Arriving Japan on Student Visa: Need Advice

Hi everyone,

I will be arriving Japan from India on a student visa on 14th June, and I'll be staying here for 6 months to work on my Master's Thesis.

For reference, I have an iPhone, but it seems I can't use the virtual Suica because Apple Wallet doesn't support Indian credit cards. I found out that the sale of Suica cards have been stopped since June 8th. Is it true that we can't get Suica cards at major train stations anymore? I thought of using them for occasional weekend trips.

During my stay I will need to pay for my insurance, rents and the university fees. I have been suggested not to go through the hassle of opening a bank account, and just withdraw cash from ATMs using a forex card.

The university only accepts fees in the form of a bank transfer. They suggested if I have the cash, I can go to a bank counter to make the transfer without needing to open any account. So I was thinking of doing that.

They also said that I could pay for rent, utilities and insurances using my cash at a konbini. I feel it would be very inconvenient to do this every month for every bill. So I thought of using PayPay for which I will need a Japanese phone number. Is it possible to get a pre paid data + call SIM for this purpose? The post paid sims would require a credit card, and I have no idea whether forex cards will work.

Thanks, and sorry for the long post.
