I’d like to go on a short weekend trip on the weekend before obon. I’ve spent hours searching various cities and prefectures around Tokyo and almost every hotel is sold out on those particular dates. Is there any place that is not well known or popular that I could go to? I just don’t want to stay at home and really want to escape the city for a weekend. If your comment is “you should have booked earlier” please save it.
