KyotoU KUINEP Program

Hi,

I wanted to post this here to gain perspective on what to prepare for and any changes I need to make in my course load at Kyoto University. I am sorry if this is incorrect section for this post, I do not use this platform a lot.

I am an incoming exchange student going to attend Kyoto University in Spring 2025 (First Semester term) through the KUINEP program. I will be a third year Computer Science major at the time of my attendance and in the college of liberal arts and sciences. I have a few questions relating to the coursework and academic rigor.

Q:

  1. KUINEP students are required to take 7 courses minimum (at my university it is 4), how difficult is this load of coursework? Is it less work and more spread out?
  2. How are the professors who are teaching the KUINEP courses in English? Are they visiting abroad professors or other? Any to particularly "avoid"?
  3. I am currently approved to take the courses below. Is this a good course schedule? Are any of them particularly difficult? Any course recommendations for my major?

Course List:

Advanced Linear Algebra

Fundamentals Of AI

Mathematical Statistics

Social Psychology-E2

Introduction to Comparative Psychology-E2

Information and Society-E2

A seminar course (not released)

Thank you for your help. ^_^

  1. The algebra and statistics courses will be tough, everything else will be a cakewalk. Oh yeah, Japanese is pretty tough too.

  2. Hi there!! I was an KUINEP student at Kyoto University, but that’s 10 years ago! Time flies and I love my life there so much. I think there are so many changes in the topics. I can tell you that subjects at Kyodai are not easy yay. Pretty tough. hahahahha But people learn how to survive. Most of subjects that listed on KUINEP Program guide are taught in English.

But you need to sit in the Japanese language class as well I mean you need to study Japanese language. It helps you a lot. I love all Japanese sensei. I learned about Genji monogatari such a beautiful novel.

You will learn a lot, man. Most of the lecturers and professors are super genius and some of them are Nobel Prize laureates. Most contents are from their research works and real world situations. Kyoto University offers you the best knowledge from the world-top school!

Don’t forget to have fun as a university student. Secure and value your friendship, spend life with purpose and be kind to others! Try to have activities with the communities and find some volunteer work, you will learn a lot of Japanese knowledge.

    Good Luck!
    J
