Hi so this is my first time making a full blown itinerary for a country. I like to just to wing it, but I think Japan needs one. Spending a total of 3 weeks! This is is what I have:

- I did the math and it’s not worth it for me to get the JR pass and instead book everything the day off! But are any benefits that I’m not thinking of? Are trains sold out often?

Spend 2 nights in Hiroshima
August 7 (day 5) arrive in Hiroshima early morning and get in line for museum
Full day in city
August 8 (day 6) is second day in Hiroshima and make your way to the island for the day hike to the summit and go back to hotel
August 9 (day 7) leave Hiroshima and go to Kyoto
4 nights in Kyoto (consider adding 1 or 2 more full day to Kyoto)
August 9 (day 7) arrive in Kyoto in the afternoon (half day)
August 10 (day 8) full day in Kyoto
August 11 (day 9) day trip to Nara
August 12 (day 10) half day in Kyoto
Leave Kyoto in the evening to Matsomata
1 night matsomato
Arrive August 12 at night to Matsomata
August 13
leave Matsumoto to Kamakochi
– Direct bus service at 5:15 AM Matsumoto to Kamikochi Cost: $28 per ticket
Will arrive to the famous Kappabashi Bridge
August 13 (day 11) – first full day kami

August 17 half day (departure in the evening)
Direct bus from Kimi to Tokyo, might have to go back to Matsomata to pick up luggage. Might be able to deliver, but most likely leave luggage with someone there
Leave kami and go to Tokyo August 17 in the evening
