Why do Japanese movies feel so…different?

For example, the romance/coming of age movies (like Monster or Nobody Knows). The plot, not every time. But the cinematography and settings can always hit somewhere deep inside my soul. It gives me a feeling of freedom, like a life I've known for so long but never got to experience. The countrysides, the quaint villages, the neighborhood houses, the mountains and the sea. Even the ones set in the city. Perhaps they are slightly romanticized, but still. They feel so sublime.

Edit: after reading some comments, I realized that I'm just describing a portion of Japanese cinema (like Koreeda's films), and my perspective is very generalized; I apologize. I guess I should broaden my experiences with japanese films before making a statement like this. Ohh, but I do love Koreeda though.

Any film recommendations for me?
