Relocation due to company switch

Hi,

I work and live in Tokyo. I have recently received a job offer from a company which requires me to relocate. The company will cover my rent but only at the condition that I am the only one contracted to the apartment. I was planning to shift in a 3LDK apartment where two of my friends already stay. But in that case, they might not cover my rent. I would really appreciate if you could share any workarounds.

Thanks.

  1. So you want to be compensated for rent but also want to live with two other people? You’re going to have to choose unless you want to risk breach of contract.
Why can’t you just live by yourself near your friends if that’s important

  2. At both my previous companies, my name had to be one on the lease to get housing allowance. I was allowed to have cohabitants listed. It was my girlfriend, then wife, but I don’t think that was clarified anywhere.

If your case is the same (lease holder with cohabitants are OK), you could ask your friend (and landlord) if they would change the contract name to you.
