I’m a halfie but spent most of my life growing up abroad speaking English. I was here for 6 years as a child so my spoken-Japanese is reasonably good, but my reading/writing is terrible (around N4) and it’s firmly holding me back from improving. However my accent sounds quite fluent, which means the older I get the more childish I sound 😅.
I’ve worked a few hospitality jobs speaking only in Japanese, and people have always been very generous with their praises (because I don’t look Japanese at all) but I have to stop being comfortable and learn to read at a higher level if I don’t want to sound like a child for the rest of my life. I spent around ¥60k on a Japanese school and reached around 200 kanji which I was very proud of, but most of it is a fog in my memory at this point and needs clearing up.
Although the schooling was helpful, I’d like to study using kanji apps this time. I’ve tried a few and can’t seem to find one that works well for me. It all feels either way too easy or not very suitable. I’m sorry it’s hard to explain…but is there any chance someone here might know of a good app that caters to someone in my situation?
Thank you very much
