Unpaid taxes due to job switching

Hello all, I have a quick question about local/citizen tax.
I quit my job in January this year (worked there for about 5 years) and started with a new company from April.

My previous company calculated local tax deductions from my gross salary. I recently got a tax slip in the mail from the city asking for payment by July 1st. It seems that the amount is for the few months that I was between jobs and had not paid the tax. Do I have to make the entire lump sum payment by this date?

In addition, tax payment slips divided into quarterly payments throughout the year were sent. I handed these to the accounting department at work and they told me that I could either pay these by myself at the quarterly intervals or have the amounts divided monthly and have them deducted from my monthly salary.

TDLR: local/citizen tax paid for this fiscal year is based on salary earned from the previous fiscal year.

Whatever salary I earn this year with my new company will decide a separate tax payment amount for next year.

Thank you for the clarification!
