An easy way to improve the tag division: have main event talent go after the belts

Seems to be generally agreed upon that NJPW’s tag scene is probably the weakest of its divisions. While Bishamon and TMDK are awesome, the rest of the tag teams leave little to be desired and feel largely thrown together.

Now, the NJPW tag division has had a illustrious past, with the likes of Mutoh & Chono, Hase & Sasaki, Mutoh & Hase, Chono & Tenzan, Kojima & Tenzan, Vader & Bigelow, Steiners, Hashimoto & Hirata, Makabe & Honma.

A majority of those teams were made up of main-event talent who had the star power that elevated the tag belts.

The revered AJPW “Four Pillar” era had the Pillars vying for the tag belts (Misawa & Kobashi vs Kawada & Taue) in addition to fighting each other to hold the Triple Crown. Even modern AJPW has a two main-event guys, Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi, also consistently be going after the tag belts.

Would love to see teams like Naito & Shingo (or Naito & Tsuji and Shingo & Tsuji) Sanada & Taichi, Finlay & Kidd, all go after the tag belts.
