Moving to Japan/Tokyo for 2 years with a 1 year old

Hi there,

I’m offered an opportunity to move to Japan for a period of 2 years (more or less). I have a wife and a 1 year old. I’m making ~200kUSD and would try to negotiate an expat deal. (Pay for housing, and more). None of use speak Japanese.

We’re currently very happy where we live, have bought our own house, have friends, etc.

We have already live expatriation life. We’re French and moved to Canada and now consider Canada our home. But that’s definitely an un-comparable experience.

We love the adventure and are on the fence of really considering this move. One of the big downside is that my wife would be turning down a job she’s about to start.

The main things that scare us is:
– Housing. We’re scared to end up in a small apartment where everything is tiny.
– Daycare
– Everyday life: we will learn Japanese, but are realistic to the language barriers we’ll encounter.

Helpful thoughts that could help us decide? Recos on expat neighborhoods in Tokyo? Example apartments we could find as expats?
