Switch to teaching at an eikaiwa this year. At first it seemed alright but unlike other teacher scenarios they pay on the 10th and if it’s on a weekend they pay us after that weekend which usually 2 days of not having any pay.
Another thing is that my bosses (a mother and son), seem to think that my medical health is their business, and constantly berate me for it.
There’s a bit more but these are the main points.
What do you all think?

Depends on why you got into it and what your options are.
There are a lot of really shady eikaiwa schools out there but I’d assume there are also some decent ones.
Btw, when you get paid shouldn’t be a big deal. It’s once a month if you’re a part timer or fully time employee.
The pay schedule doesn’t seem too off to me. It’s not the like the calendar is a secret. I have a similar deal at a company that’s really quite reputable that I teach freelance at.
The rest I don’t think anybody can help you with. Steer the conversation away from health subjects or don’t hold back with counter advice? Maybe they could eat more natty too. You have to eat a certain level of shit in these jobs. You can only draw the line yourself.
I am not sure how they found out about your medical health. Do you take a lot of time off to visit the doctor?
I guess in some cases (being morbidly obese for example), I do think it may impact the business, but assuming it is not something that affects your job performance I think it sounds unreasonable.
You should always have 2 days worth of living costs in your savings, no matter what health issue you have. And if you have them, then receiving 2 days later shouldn’t be a problem. If you don’t have 2 days worth of living costs in your savings, then the problem isn’t when you are being paid, but how much.
And people being annoying isn’t exclusive to those mother and son.
“What do you all think” I think looking for advice about changing jobs due to the 2 points above is weird, since if you find a job without the 2 problems above, it doesn’t sounds that much of an upgrade, even without considering that you will have other problems in your new job. Don’t have to go far from this sub to find that many people have problems at their job as well, many of them being much worse than the 2 you described.
It sounds like a “I think other places pay 1 dollar more, should I quit?” question. Maybe you just need someone to drink with. Or anything your health allows.
Don’t rush your resignation letter. I am paying the price for it.
I’ve always been paid on the 25th of the month for as long as I’ve been working here. Getting paid after the weekend a payday falls on is normal. That’s always been the case for me. As for them nagging you about taking care of your health, that’s not unusual, either, based on my own experiences. If it’s a small family operation and they like you they may treat you more like a family member than an employee.
If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. You can always go and see, whether there are other jobs in your area that at least pay better.
And I wouldn’t let the owners of the school in too deep into your private life. Your condition is none of their business. Just say “hai, hai, nnn, hai” and then do what you want. They’ll get the hint eventually.
