Need online game recommendations to play with a Japanese friend

Hello, I’m posting with hopes that I won’t be downvoted to oblivion. Don’t know where else to ask.

I’m looking for some free/cheap games that can be played on the Nintendo Switch/iOS that doesn’t require language ability(ie. Pictionary).

My friend recently moved to the other side of the country and is coping with all the *fun* emotions that comes with adjusting to a new environment. She has a lot of downtime right now so I’m trying to think of some games to play with her to keep her occupied but I don’t play too many games to really know what’s out there.

  1. I play Fall Guys and it is cross platform compatible so we can play together. It can be played on Nintendo Switch. DM me if interested.

  2. For iOS, Gorogoa. It’s a wordless puzzle game whose riddles are made of moving frames to create new persectives. The hand drawn animation is lovely, and the levels take you through the story of one man’s life, his tragedies, regrets, penance, and peace. It’s not too expensive, and well worth the price.

  3. Mario Kart

You don’t need any language ability to race each other. Hours of fun and competition. If you don’t like competition you can set it to team race and work together.

    Mario Party

These are fun mini games that require no language ability. The instructions for the games are videos.

Edit: just realized you said free/cheap. While these won’t be free they are older games and you should be able to find used copies at Book Off or somewhere. I remember I found a copy of Mario Kart for under ¥1,000

  4. I used to play Mario kart with a bunch of Japanese girls and we hardly communicated

  5. I love overcooked, so super fun and it’s on Nintendo. Doesn’t require language ability.

But I lost all my friends after I played with them.

    Apparently I’m too much oops

  6. If you love to build things:

    Minecraft.

Can’t go wrong with Digital Lego.

    Edit:

    Free or cheap.

    Well then, perhaps ぷよぷよ.
Which is perennially popular across my little circle of friends.

  7. Maybe the exploration game Sky? Been playing that with a friend and it’s super relaxing.

  8. Duck game and Invisigun are regularly on sale on the switch.

Not sure if they offer online options, but lovers in a dangerous space time and cat quest ii are great co-op games . As with the other games, regularly on sale.
