I'm currently a full time Systems Engineer, with a little over 2 years of experience in this title currently. I'm looking to get a bachelor's degree online while remaining in this position, and I'm hoping to score a job in Japan at some point in the next five years.
I've been considering a few different programs, between Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Cloud Computing. My understand is that there are a lot of openings for software engineers, and not as many in IT architecture/systems/cloud type of work. I'm leaning towards a Cloud Computing program at the moment, but my fear is getting pigeon-holed out of any job opportunities, while on the other hand the Software Engineering or Computer Science route may make my Systems Engineer experience essentially moot due to having a decent degree of separation.
I've been learning Japanese for the past couple years, so I'm not too worried about having a decent level of fluency by the time I would be applying for jobs as long as I keep working hard at it.
If anyone has practical advice on how to make myself marketable and choose a degree from my current position, I would really appreciate it.
