Places to sell used clothing to?

Hello, I've got some (like-new) used clothing I no longer want and was wondering if any thrift stores or similar places buy goods at a reasonable price. Obviously not expecting retail but just a fair price. I can't really be bothered selling online/organising postage etc, would rather just get rid of a bunch of stuff all at once.

Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks

  1. Unless they’re name brands you’re unlikely to get more than a few hundred yen per kilogram, if even that.

  2. You probably won’t get much but Second Street will buy used clothing off of you. There is one on Shirakawa dori near Kyoto University of the Arts, and also one downtown

  3. Zaccabacker is often mentioned as one of the better places to sell, but it’s not up in the city.

Unless it’s brand stuff, you’re gonna be getting pennies to the dollar (yennies to the yen?) at places like hardoff and second street. Often not worth the gas or train ticket to get there and back. Took in three large trash bags of very decent baby clothes, hundreds of pieces that we never used that were given to us free, and they offered 25 yen for it all. I told them I’d rather take it home and trash it.

  4. No. You have to choose: laziness/convenience, or getting a fair price. If you want to laugh in horrified disbelief, do take the load to a Second Street. I think they aim to offer 12% or something.

The other trick that might get a better price would be to offload it as a batch to a working reseller, so on Mercari/FB WTF it is,/JMTY/AgeKuda…..etc. Just clarify it is an All or Nothing Sale……….and then watch low value twerpaloompas message you asking about single items at a 95% discount. Sadly, reselling is now mostly a swamp.

  5. 古着 KINJI have a few branches in the centre with predominantly larger Western clothing. Might be a good place to sell to.
