This has been a discussed point for years with the level of Gaijin talent that we had over the years for new Japan. New Japan main event scene is lacking severely. 3 of the young guys have challenged for the title but by the end none of them feel elevated in the slightest. And the discussion is either having a veteran like shingo or zsj win in the dome.
My thought is that if new Japan wanted to have a Gaijin win in the main event of the dome. They had countless opportunities to do so. But it was either the wrong story or the wrong time.
With Kenny main evented against Okada and Tana. For the Okada match the story and the made made sense for Okada to win.While for Tana, he could have lost if the rumored match at MSG was going to be Okada vs Kenny 5. Ospreay Main evented once but it was in a feud regarding the new title. And it was new Japan's 50th anniversary year. No one would have represented new japan better than Okada who was their ACE.
Zsj is a ton of people's pick to take the title off of naito at the dome. Zack is excellent and has shown his worth for years but he is not at that level of a star to main event and win at WK.
