Is it acceptable to play an instrument outsides in Kyoto?

I plan to travel to Kyoto and bring my ukulele with me. I'd like to play it on the riverside, parks, streets. Just for fun, not busking for money. It's not a loud instrument, but it still does create sound.
Is this a normal thing to do in Kyoto?

I've never been to Japan but I imagine people might not like others making noise or maybe it's also against the law to do street music.
