Can someone please explain how Kimetsu no Yaiba’s demon eyes are numbers?

Hi!

As the title says, I need help in understanding how the anime Kimetsu no Yaiba’s demon characters’ eyes are numbers. I’ve been looking at pictures of their eyes for a while now and I can’t seem to understand how the other characters instantly know what rank the demons are based on their eyes. The eyes themselves do not look to be, or have, the usual kanji for japanese numbers.

Please let me know if this should not be posted here. I thought about it and felt like this question would be best answered by Japanese people or Japanese language experts.

Thank you!

  1. hi ! i am japanese.

What is used in their eyes is a kanji numeral called “大字”(daizi) to prevent tampering.

    1:壱

    2:弐

    3:参

    4:肆

    5:伍

    6:陸

    is this enough?

  2. Looks like you have your answer. I wanted to add real quick, that you’ll often see these “formal” number kanji in Japan when used in proper nouns for buildings and stuff. For example, if there’s a 3-building apartment complex, the first one would be “Apartment Name 壱”.
