Hi friends – my fiance and I are going to Japan in late August for our honeymoon. Neither of us have been before and we're looking for feedback on our itinerary!
A few notes:
- We know it's going to be hot, and we're rolling with it anyways.
- For all of these places we have a bunch of spots saved on Wanderlog. We're going to be fairly unstructured about things.
- The hotels, ryokans, or airbnbs are important to us. We'd like to stay at places that are exceptional experiences.
- We're planning on a mix of city life/dining focused activities, as well as visiting some more remote towns and doing some hiking.
Fly LAX into Osaka
Day 1-3: Three nights in Osaka, hotel booked in advance. Train to Kyoto >
Day 4-6: Three nights in Kyoto. Train to Fukui >
- Any Kyoto hotel or airbnb recommendations? Looking at this place: HOSHINOYA Kyoto. But the reviews are mixed…
Day 7-8: Two days in Fukui
- We're eyeing up this place to stay: Hakujukan. Anyone been?
Day 9-11: Rent a car and explore without advanced hotel planning (I have an international drivers permit)
- Possible stops: Kanazawa, up the coast towards Noto, Nagano, and/or Mt. Fuji perimeter
- Where would you spend the most time during this stretch?
- Any spa-like recommendations along the coast?
- or hiking recommendations in the Japanese Alps?
Day 12-14: Three nights in Tokyo, hotel booked in advance. Return rental car as soon as we get to Tokyo.
Fly out of Tokyo to LAX
Mainly we're looking for feedback on our unstructured plans and advice on great experiential places to stay:
- What do y'all think?
- Are there things we definitely should book in advance?
- Any must visit places, or places we should spend more or less time?
- Are we trying to fit too much in?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
