Japanese Eels in Osaka Rivers

I snapped this picture of a cormorant that had caught a Japanese eel, unagi if you're into Japanese cuisine, in the Tosahori River next to Nakanoshima. This is one of several rivers that flow through the heart of Osaka.
The Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica, is endangered. Last year, an academic study conducted by the Osaka Research Institute of Environment, Agriculture, and Fisheries discovered eels living in the Dotombori River, a short distance away. This means the Osaka rivers are clean enough now to support an ecosystem that includes eels.
If you're wondering about the turbidity of the river, it's the diatoms.
