Hi there. I’m looking to replace my 10 year old mini tyre step-over bike with something that I can use for morning / weekend rides along Tokyo cycle paths as well as a bit of general getting around with my wife and kid once every few weekends.
My research tends to tell me I need two bikes for this as one concern I do have is leaving a half decent bike locked outside shops / restaurants.
That said, the bikes that have really caught my eye are the Bianchi Roma 2 and Giant Escape RX. Trouble is i know myself and tend to get into things quite quickly and can see myself looking enviously at drop bar bikes soon after buying a flat bar.
So my questions;
– Any feedback / thoughts on the two bikes I highlighted?
– Any better suggestions? (flex budget, but ideally under 150k)
– Is buying a drop bar bike a bad idea for the purposes I’ve highlighted?

You haven’t really given us what you’re looking for in a bike. Any bike would fulfill what you asked for in your post.
The only reason why you’d want a drop bar is if you want to go FAST.
