Changing apartments and am confused about setting up internet

As the title says, I’m moving.

I get a packet of information from the realtor about setting up gas, electricity, and internet. Went through the paperwork, gas and electricity went fine, then I get call from Biglobe (who they directed me to use) asking if the apartment has a hikari hookup. I don’t know, so I ask the realtor, who replies with “I tried to check, but the landlord doesn’t seem to know…” So, I contact the landlord directly, and get “yeah, there is one, but that was put there by the previous resident, so check for yourself whether you can use it.”

How the hell am I supposed to know that? What do I do here?

  1. look for a wall plate somewhere in the apartment, with a protrusion on one side and ntt and å…‰ text on it, or maybe just a coiled up wire with a blue connector on the end. that would be the connection: https://icip.info/wp/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/hikari_plug.jpg

fyi, biglobe is kinda garbage unless you already have a contract with them. their cost isn’t that great and it takes several business days to enable ipv6/ipoe feature. so keeping that in mind make sure to either enable that when signing up or expect it to take a few days after.

  2. This sounds to me like they’d rather give you the safe answer. Heaven forfend if they tell you something that doesn’t turn out to be true in the end. Tell your provider that you need somebody to pull fiber to your new place. If they don’t see it as already done on their end, they’ll send an electrician. They can tell for sure what’s up. Worst case they will have made the trip for nothing. Pretend to be surprised and sorry then.
