IB Teachers in Japan (Article 1 & International Schools)

I did a similar post about 5 years ago and at the time, IB was still very much in its infancy in Japan. Since then, there has been steady growth in the number of authorized and candidate schools across the country. I am curious how many members of the [r/teachinginjapan](https://www.reddit.com/r/teachinginjapan/) community are involved with the IB in some capacity.

  1. English B teacher. Pretty large school, which surprises me when I talk to other English B teachers. 18 to 26 students per class as opposed to just a handful to other schools.

  2. My school has been doing the IBDP for about 10 years now. It’s an Article 1 school rather than International, although classes are in English. The current rise seems to be connected to the development of the DLDP which is easier to implement and recruit teachers for as only 2 of the 6 groups needs to be in English and I believe TOK and CAS can be done in Japanese as well?

    There also seems to have been a rise in PYP and MYP. I think the government originally wanted to have 200 schools across the country offering IB by next year but until the DLDP was brought in it was looking like an impossible target.

  4. I’m IBDP Business Management in a new school. We currently have 18 students enrolled for our first cohort in September, most of the team is hoping for 20. Interviews are still happening a few times a week so not unlikely.

  5. I teach the IBDP at an international school in the Kanto area, and I also taught it for a few years back in my home country. I’ll actually be our DP Coordinator from next year, so I am simultaneously excited and nervous. I’d love to get more connected with the IB community in Japan, as the programme does seem to be growing.

  7. I’m not a teacher, but I was a tutor at an IB International school. All courses were taught in English, and DP was offered, although there were limited subject choices. Class sizes ranged from 1 ~ to 15.
