Hey guys,
I am a researcher currently working in Korea and I was thinking of working in a research lab in Japan on collaboration project as a visiting scholar. And regarding this move I had some questions for people who have applied for HSP and then PR afterwards
1) Can visiting scholars apply for HSP or are we bound to the normal researcher visa? (If we can how much of a headache would it be for the admin of the place I am applying at to get a COE?)
2) Regarding the points calculation:
–Do the points for income only count for what I'll receive in Japan? (Or would my salary in Korea also count?)
–Regarding the extra points of research achievements, do they look at your profile as a whole and give you points? (for example – On all my research I am the first author not the corresponding as that usually is your supervisor. And I have patent which has been approved in Korea with its international approval pending)
–How do they verify the work experience points? (Since I worked a researcher during my Masters and have internships as well)

3)I really like Japan and want to form a base there and to this end if I go there through HSP I want to see if applying for PR is on the table (80 points). But because of my work I might have to move around during the period of stay. How continuous does the period of stay need to be?
And if there is anything else you guys think I should keep in mind which I may be missing, if I am thinking of applying for PR after a year, please let me know! 🙂
