Hi all, excuse me if this is not the best place to ask these questions, but I’ve found this to be the most informative sub re: Japan visas.
My wife and I live in the US – I’m an American citizen, she is Japanese. We want to visit later in the year for a few weeks to see family, etc. I was going to submit an application for a Spouse Visa, but stumbled upon the MOFA online visa application site ([https://www.evisa.mofa.go.jp](https://www.evisa.mofa.go.jp)). This is Japan, so I was a bit shocked to see an actual online option for this.
I applied, showed a copy of our family registry as well as a letter from her mother in Tokyo “inviting” us over. I was approved after about a week. I spoke to the Japan consulate in LA – a representative who seemed to want to be doing literally anything else, told me she is not allowed to comment on the MOFA eVisa site (?).
Has anyone used this before? The visa hotline has not answered all day, so I cannot get answers from them either. Obviously, we don’t want to plan a trip and then be told at NRT that we missed something, this isn’t the right visa, etc., though the site obviously looks legitimate.
Also, the “date of expiry” for the 90 day visa is 11/25 (3 months after its issuance). Am I correct that this only means I must enter Japan by 11/25, and then once I am there, the 90 day clock starts?
Thanks in advance.
