Moving to Japan mid-year – will I be taxed in Japan on an inheritance I received this year before moving?

I am an American, in Japan right now on a tourist visa, planning to get a spouse visa in mid-July. I received an inheritance of 6 figures (dollars) a few days ago, and I want to understand if it will be taxed in Japan. I assume that since I am not technically living in Japan at the time of receiving the inheritance, it won't be taxed at all – does this sound right?

Edit: The decedent of the inheritance is still alive. In the US you can give money away before your death and declare it as part of an inheritance to the IRS. It's not a gift. When the decedent dies and I get any remaining money or assets, my total inheritance will be the amount I received recently plus the assets received upon death of the decedent.

More in general, when it comes time to pay tax in Japan for 2024, what sort of documents will I need to hand over regarding my finances in the US? What will I be taxed on, aside from any income I might get in Japan after getting my visa?

More details:

I have no personal income from work this calendar year (2024)

I also received a gift of 5 figures (dollars), and I have some passive income from investments sold earlier in 2024. I assume that if the inheritance is not taxed in Japan, these income sources won't be either (and vice versa), but let me know if you think that's not the case.
