Planning a family trip to chichibu this autumn

I’m hoping to go chichibu for 4D3N from Tokyo with my family (with two kids)
Is driving necessary? We’re hoping not because a little lazy this time 😅

If you have any other suggestions for a more relaxing trip outside Tokyo (that’s not popular or crowded with tourists, please recommend!)
