Tax free shopping and its effect on CoE application

Hey folks,

I went to japan for two months this year for an internship. I did some shopping (around 17000yen). While checking out the cashier asked for my passport for tax-free. I did not realize that since my visa was of type 'Designated Activities', tax free shopping was not allowed. I realized this after a week and went to the store to rectify the mistake. They refunded the previous transaction and issued a new one with tax included in it.

Now, I am going to Japan again for a full time job. My company will be applying for CoE. Can this mistake cause my CoE to be rejected?

  1. You’re fine.

Taxes and Immigration are different agencies, so the chances that immigration would even be aware of the issue are basically nonexistent.

But it’s not even an issue, because you went back and paid the taxes.
