Our best experiences in Okinawa

We went to Okinawa in February 2024, after 10 years of wanting to visit 🙂

Overall our goal was to kitesurf in Okinawa and explore the island by car.

If you plan to drive around, the best piece of advice is to really plan ahead exactly where you will go and when. If you don’t, you will not have a good time. But if you plan, you will find many beautiful oasis locations in between overall not very well maintained infrastructure.

Wondering around in hope to come across beautiful locations just don’t work.

We planned every day and had amazing experiences from kitesurfing, eating in really good very local in the middle of nowhere restaurants and few very famous ones that require booking well ahead.

We stayed at houses surrounded by “ghost” houses. Abandoned but not sold.

Visited lanterns festival, multiple wet markets, aquarium, did some hikes and ate famous Okinawa dishes.

Some snapshots of our experience are documented below with videos.

Enjoy your trip to Okinawa and plan your trip carefully to get full benefits.
