Hey all. Im a 24M thinking about staying in japan for the next 3 months and I was thinking about staying in a sharehouse. I looked into some reviews about oakhouse and it seems mixed, and I wanted to get more insight on it. Is it worth it? I have concerns about how "social" these houses are, and if there are anyone who can share their recent experiences on their share house experience with oakhouse. Im looking at a 40 person share house right now and the layout looks kinda like a jail cell tbh. Each room is like 10m^2 which is no alot of space but its reasonably priced – 80,000 yen per month. Would it be better just to get an airbnb? I wouldnt mind paying alittle bit extra but I would like to make some friends while im in Japan.
Also if anyone has any other suggestions other than airbnb for apartments id appreciate it!

I had the worst experience with Oak House – so I don’t recommend it! However, I heard some people had good experiences. I would probably look into other options, if you have the money. It’s up to you.
I stayed at MAXIS share house in Honancho when I first moved here. Was only there for 6 months waiting to find an actual place to live but it was comfortable enough.

Pretty good, I stayed for over a year, never really had a problem. Pretty sociable, people were friendly, good areas to work, study, good internet, don’t need to buy furniture. Generally good location too ( I was in the heart of asakusa so)
I stayed in one for a month when I first came here and liked it. Chill people too and it was fun meeting new friends. Only thing I don’t miss is having to walk down a long hallway to take a piss in the middle of the night.
Stayed at 2 Oakhouse properties over a year (6 months each). Was in Ota-ku, usually social, they maintain a 50/50 foreigner to Japanese ratio if they can. This is super great for if you are there to study the language. Pretty much everything included so no need to worry about owning furniture to move or sell. Management was surprisingly flexible with plans. This was 6 years ago so who knows now.

I stayed at a share house from sakura-house for 3 months. It was ok. I like the social aspect of meeting and hanging out with my housemates. Airbnb in japan is so expensive and the reviews seems worse than sharedhouses.
I stayed at one Oakhouse share house for three months. It was pretty good. Friendly and diverse tenants
I’ve been in Japan for 18 months and have lived in 2 Oakhouse properties during this time. I have had no problems with Oakhouse itself, the management is really responsive and friendly. As for your experience in the actual house, I’ve realized it depends more on the people that live there. My first Oakhouse was a building of 70 residents, shared facilities and for this reason it was very impersonal, difficult to make friends, and dirty. The second sharehouse (I’ve been here a year now) is totally different, it’s very social, the people that live here have become like family to me, and since we are all close we are very respectful of keeping common spaces clean.
I really like how flexible the contracts with Oakhouse are and the move in costs are low. There are also lots of Oakhouse events which are nice for meeting new people and making new friends.
Had some great experience and some mid experience. You don’t always share the appartement with people that want to socialize, but the people i lived with where overall pretty calm.
