How hard is it to visit my old stomping grounds?

Grew up on Okinawa (Kadena AFB) from ‘92-‘98 and then again from ‘02-‘04 and would love to take a couple weeks long trip to enjoy my favorite place in the world. Goal being to make it feel like I was living there again. Has a special place in my heart like many others that have left the island.

My question to anyone who has done it, what is the best way from an enjoyment and financial perspective to visit the island? Also, not knowing anyone stationed on base, are there any sponsor programs to visit the base and see my old houses/schools/etc? Trying to figure out the best way to make the most of it, and possibly move back if the “feels” are where I hope they’d be.

For what it’s worth, I have built a completely remote business and can work anywhere in the world. Would love to add a side job for SOFA status if that’s still a thing but would love to live the civilian military life again. TIA
