Tips for getting our daughter to eat? Picky eater.

I’m sure this is probably a common struggle for most parents, having a child that’s a picky eater.

For us we’re currently at a loss on what to do.
It started with our daughter when she was about 3, previously she would basically devour anything we put in front of her. But now it’s almost a daily struggle getting her to eat, she’ll sit down for a meal but then the time just ticks by as she very very slowly pecks at her food while we wait, sometimes an hour will go by and she’s barely touched it.

For us what’s so confusing is there’s no pattern, she’ll seeming love something but then one day we’ll make it and she won’t touch it. She also basically doesn’t like most normal kids food. Pasta, Hamburg, weiners, furikake, omurice, to name a few of the things she won’t touch. Even things like curry and karage are hit or miss.

Today I woke up early so thought it would be nice to go grab some coffee, juice and apple pastries for the wife and daughter’s breakfast. Something I know the daughter likes as a treat to start the weekend, she super sweet about it, says thank you with a hug and then doesn’t eat.
Maybe she’s not hungry, she is only 5 and tiny.

And I will point out that while we are fairly strict parents, we don’t get angry or punish her for not eating. We want her to develop healthy eating habits so we try are best to be very patient.
