Genshin Impact strange personal pronouns: Xinyan and Paimon

So, in Genshin Impact, there are two characters who refer to themselves strangely in the Japanese dub: Xinyan, who refers to herself as アタイ, and Paimon, who refers to herself as オイラ. I’ve never heard these before, what do they convey? Are they even real?

  1. アタイ is a variant of あたし

オイラ is just a variant of 俺ら and is common in Kanto with boys.

  2. “Oira “ has a kind of cheeky, playful, country side vibe. Zorua from Pokémon also uses it.

“Atai” is for bad, tomboy, cool girls. Cirno from touhou uses it.

These are definitely real. It’s not really standard nor polite so you just don’t hear them often, more common in anime or among friends.

  3. iirc. オイラ is a archaic masculine way of referring to oneself, and アタイ is a very informal feminine way to refer to oneself (considering xinyans personality it makes sense)
