I heard for students, you can obtain a work permit at the aiport once you get your residence card. is this true you have to submit a few documents.

At the airport you use a different form with like your name, date of birth, nationality, and your gender. See [this page](https://www.isa.go.jp/en/applications/procedures/16-8.html), specifically “Students who are newly entering Japan should use the following Excel file.” link.
You can even ask the officer for the form and fill it at the immigration booth. No problem. This is the only document required.
