Hello! I'll be going to Japan with my partner in early October. I've done a lot of research about taking the Shinkansen, and am familiar with all the guidelines and requirements. Because both of us will have check-in baggages, I know that we'll both have to book seats at the back of the train for the oversize baggage area spots.
All that said, I was curious if everyone would recommend reserving these seats in advance (a month? a day or two?). A lot of people on this sub mention that they have no issue getting tickets right before their trip, especially during off-season trips. However, I'm not sure if this still applies if I know I will need to get seats with oversize baggage space. I get that booking close to the departure time allows for more flexibility, so that's the tradeoff here.
