I’m in Osaka on an artist grant to research Japanese hostess clubs or ”kyabakura”. My only friend here (Japanese) said that she doesn’t think women can enter kyabakuras alone so I was wondering if anyone has any experience in going to kyabakura or knows of one where I can go as a fenale customer? I’ve tried goodling in Japanese and English but I can’t find what I need.
I’m on a working holiday visa so I’m not allowed to work at one which would have been my best option since I want to interact with both hostesses and customers. I worked at a girls bar in Tokyo a few years back and a lot of the girls there had student visas but that was before the pandemic and olympics and everything is so different now somehow, I feel like Japan is being more accommodating but also more careful about gaijins.
