Where can I actively practice building sentences?

I feel like I know a lot of words but I have so much trouble with grammar. Is there anywhere I can actively work on building sentences and have it be checked either by a machine or person? I usually pair Genki resource online workbook after every lesson and I get good sentence practice but I need to practice more.

A method I have tried doing is googling “simple English paragraphs for English learners” and translating the whole thing without translators. But I’m not too sure if I did it right.

How do y’all do this? I do have a tutor that I meet once a week, but I want to practice more. I don’t want to just practice on my own and say things wrong thinking I’m right.

  1. I just simply do it. Then I add new grammar points that i learned so it can be cemented in my mind well enough

  2. Look up sentence examples and swap a noun for a noun etc to make sentences that are at a minimum grammatically correct. I use weblio for sentence examples.

  3. You can post things on the app HelloTalk and people will correct them. There’s also a couple other similar sites out there, I think one’s called LangCorrect. HiNative is good for short questions, and you can get some minor corrections on sentences I think. The website LingQ seems to have a journal function too? Never used it though.

Lang-8 used to be the place to go for that, but it’s no longer accepting new users. 🙁

  4. Langcorrect is a free option

you can sometimes get corrections in the daily question thread of this sub

a pay option is you can hire a tutor and ask them if you can keep a journal

  5. translating is a much harder skill than actually building sentences on their own. I would try making your own purely from observations around you or about something, or by talking to another person than translating paragraphs from EN to JP. the sites suggested by the rest of the comments seem pretty good!
