I had some spare time today while waiting for the nakasendo matsuri today so I went before closing.
The poor animals. With the exception of the aviary, most of the animals were extremely stressed, especially the black bear, the hyena, and the monkeys.
They were all constantly pacing. It was very depressing to see.
Even the boars and capybaras had massive issues.
The cages were tiny and some animals were all by their selves in their tiny cages.
While it was a “free zoo” that doesn’t excuse how poor the conditions were. And yes, I know that zoos in Japan aren’t considered the best.
