Hi, so I’m a current fourth-year university student in Japan and attend a top university in Japan— I’m a Japanese and American citizen and also bilingual. Looking at the perspective towards degrees from Japanese universities is that the general sentiment is that it’s not a degree that has much weight outside of the country and only useful for employment within the country. My current dilemma is that I would like to remain in japan for a few years, but I don’t want to remain here indefinitely (prefer to be in Europe, or the States for the long-term aspect). I’ve been aiming at gaishikei jobs and many of my senpais from uni work at them. It seems that a lot of Japanese people prefer to remain in Japan, but I’m unfortunately not part of that crowd. So, my question is: does graduating from a Japanese uni and working in Japan (albeit at a gaishikei) mean that im doomed to permanently remain here?
Edit: Forgot to include my background! I’m a literature + anthropology student. I have background in private sector research (albeit internships). I’ve been looking at strategic research/research consulting jobs.
