Hi everyone! I just moved to Tokyo recently from the western part of Japan. As I'm trying to adjust myself with the nightclub culture over here, I find that the DJ scene is quite in the mix of everything. In a good way of course.
I would like to ask if anyone here ever performed in any bars or club in Tokyo (not specifically to DJ-ing): How was the process? As in do you frequently need to become the customer of the establishment or do you simply ask the owner/promoter right off the bat during your first visit? Or do you write to them on their respective SNS (X, Instagram, etc) and express your interest to perform?
Personally I have performed in some of the local bars at the prefecture where I did my study. From my observation the scene in Tokyo is a bit more different (or perhaps competitive?) in which they might have a strict process on who can play and who cannot. Can anyone confirm this?
