I can't speak for everyone, but I'd imagine most people in this sub are American and will one day head back to the states.
I can't stop focusing on how many people in America are just randomly offed while picking up groceries, sitting in a classroom, bowling, etc. As the title indicates, I'm referring to the incessant mass shootings.
I used to think "bad people exist and it's unfortunately the way it is" then I moved to Japan and realized we're the only ones that live like this. Now, I highly value this unencountered-before safety and peace of mind that Okinawa has given me.
Ever time I see a mass shooting in the headlines…. Like today in Iowa…I get this dread knowing that the same place is next on my itinerary. Dread knowing that my kid will be there, and it's so hard to rationalize that I'm putting my family in more danger by simply moving back home. It feels inescapable. Every week AFN blares that ABC news "BA BA BAABUUU I'm Richard Cantu x amount of people were gunned down in x place…. SERVING AMERICA'S BEST 😎"
I love my country, and I am critical out of love, but the frequency and inaction around mass shootings make me want to stay here forever. Am I the only one feeling this way??
