Hi, I'm traveling to Japan on January 2025 between the 7th and 23rd of Jan. We're a group of 6 person all adults and want to make the most out of it.
We have an idea of the itinerary i want but I wanna know whether it is a good one or if it could be more efficient with time
Right now, we have this:
Land in Tokyo and stay for 3 days
Osaka (were gonna squeeze in Nara and Kobe in)after and stay for 4 days,
Kyoto for 3 days,
Nagoya for 2 day,
Takayama for 3 days (don't know if it's worth it)
Hakone for one day
Back to Tokyo for the remaining days
I was planning on buying the 21 days jr pass but I know it's really expensive now so should I buy it or is it cheaper to do it another way (I want it to be as stress free as possible)
Am I missing out on some good city that we could squeeze in or replace other cities with.
Is there something that we are missing out and are locked out of since it is going to be winter. In other words, should I reduce or increase stay time at certain places since it's winter.
It is important to note that our priority in japan I primarily food culture and shopping for some. I'm personally interested in Japanese history and culture too hence Takayama but that's for me.
Sorry I know it's a lot of questions but I'm stressed a bit about planning since it's our first trip out of the country.

Use a JR pass calculator to see if it’s worth it for your trip. And keep in mind the pass is only good for JR lines, so if you need to use other company lines, you will need to pay for those.
