Should I feel guilty for only doing a short contract on JET?

I'm leaving JET this year, and every time I tell teachers or people in my BOE, they always respond with the same thing "Only two years!? So short!".

I'm sure they don't mean it in any negative way, but it makes me feel so guilty. I've genuinely loved my two years here and I'm so glad I did them. I would have happily recontracted too, but I have other career plans waiting for me in my home country that I want to get started on.

I feel like because my predecessor stayed for 5 years, everyone was expecting me to do the same (even though I always made it clear that I was planning to return to my home country to go back to my previous career path).

Is there anyone who went though anything similar after leaving "early"?

I wish BOE's explained to schools that ALTs can leave after 1, 2 years or however long or short… I feel like a lot of schools think ALTs will always be 5 year contracts…
