Which of the Tokyo islands is best for snorkeling and camping?

I want to do a 3-day trip to one of the Tokyo islands but I can’t decide which one I should go to.

These are the things I’m looking for..

1. Good snorkeling – Pristine, deep water with a large variety of flora and fauna.
2. Good camping – Near the beach, cheap, easy
3. If there’s a city with nice restaurants that’s a plus but not necessary, we can just cook at the campsite
4. Cheaper is better

I’d love to your ideas on which island is the best! Or any experiences you’ve had on these islands.

Thanks!

  1. I’ve been to Hachijojima and Oshima. I’m a diver so not sure about snorkelling, but after diving all over Asia the marine life isn’t that spectacular. You can see some turtles at shallow water in Hachijojima but turtles are like pigeons to me, so depends how high your standards are. Both islands have good hiking in the form of the volcanoes that make up the islands, I enjoyed that much more. Both islands also had towns with restaurants and supermarkets if you want to cook, not too expensive too.

  2. Ogasawara Islands have a lot of really nice snorkeling, but camping is prohibited due to their protected status. I mostly stayed on Chichijima and had a great time snorkeling, whale watching, dolphin watching, and hiking, but you have to rent a room or cottage.
