Hi All,
My Dad (63 M) and I (32 M) will be travelling to Japan from November 14th to December 1st. It is both our first time in Japan and we need some help/advice ironing out the itinerary.
Day 0 (Nov. 14): Toronto -> Tokyo
Day 1 (Nov. 15): Arrive in Tokyo (Narita) ~5 pm
- I will pick up our Suicia cards and pocket Wi-Fi before we head into the city.
Day 2 (Nov. 16):Â Tokyo
- Harajuku & Shinjuku
Day 3 (Nov. 17):Â Tokyo
- Asakusa, Akihabara, & Shibuya
Day 4 (Nov. 18):Â Lake Kawaguchi or Kamakura Day Trip
Day 5 (Nov. 19):Â Tokyo (?)
- Free day in Tokyo OR day trip OR should we leave the city and head to our next destination a day early?
Day 6 (Nov. 20): Tokyo ->Â Kanazawa
- Morning shinkansen to Kanazawa arriving late morning/noon.
Day 7 (Nov. 21):Â Kanazawa
- Full day in Kanazawa.
Day 8 (Nov. 22): Kanazawa ->Â Takayama via Shirakawa-go
- Morning bus to Shirakawa-go – store luggage at station and explore the village for a few hours. Take a bus in the afternoon to Takayama.
Day 9 (Nov. 23): Takayama -> Kyoto
- Spend the morning/early afternoon in Takayama and then take the train(s) to Kyoto.
Day 10 (Nov. 24): Kyoto/Nara day trip
- Nara day trip — thought process here is that it would be better to deal with the weekend crowds in Nara than in Kyoto.
Day 11 (Nov. 25):Â Kyoto
- Southern/Northern Higashiyama
Day 12 (Nov. 26):Â Kyoto
- Arashiyama/Northern Kyoto
Day 13 (Nov. 27):Â Kyoto
- Fushimi Inari Shrine
- Other points of interest in Kyoto that we didn't get to in the previous days
Day 14 (Nov. 28): Kyoto ->Â Miyajima Island
- Luggage transfer to Osaka.
- Shinkansen to Miyajima Island in the morning; spend the day/overnight on the island.
Day 15 (Nov. 29): Miyajima Island -> Hiroshima -> Osaka
- Morning/afternoon on Miyajima Island and exploring Hiroshima.
- Shinkansen to Osaka in the evening.
Day 16 (Nov. 30):Â Osaka / Himeji day trip
- Short Himeji visit in the morning. Return to Osaka in the afternoon.
Day 17 (Nov. 31): Osaka -> Tokyo ->Â Toronto
- Fly to Tokyo and then home.
Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated! My Dad and I don't travel that often together, and he's just recently retired, so I'm hoping to get this itinerary right!
Thank you.
