Conservation/environmental jobs in Japan?

Hi there,

I want to just put this out there asking if there are many pathways for foreigners to explore environmental conservation jobs in Japan. I have a bachelor's of science degree in tropical plant science and agroecology I have helped with forestry and agricultural research, done some work with outreach with the state, education with kids in agriculture programs, worked in entomological/invertebrate labs etc. All my experience is kind of weird and piecemeal-y because I live in Hawai'i and the funding is pretty bad here for environmental stuff. So a lot of contract jobs and cost of living is just insane.

I really love my field and where I live but it's insanely competitive and I'm struggling to afford to live here and stay in it. I'm interested in doing language school for a few years and seeing what my options in Japan are after getting to N2 hopefully. From what I read it seems like a lot of jobs are govt run and only want citizens. Just curious if anyone else out here also works in agriculture, environmental science, or anything similar. I don't mind getting my hands dirty and working outdoors, I enjoy field work.
