Hello everyone. I'm not learning Japanese but I have an interest in Kanji and Chinese characters. I came across this word 塩魚汁 (shottsuru) which refers to a Japanese fermented fish sauce. I am wondering how this pronunciation came about. I've looked up the individual characters on Wiktionary (塩, 魚, 汁), but none of the readings correspond to 'shottsuru'. How would this pronunciation have come about? I would assume that maybe this is an older or regional pronunciation that has stuck?
