Weird sound in apartment

Two weeks ago I moved into this apartment that’s about 10 years old. There were a few problems (the interphone microphone broke and the bath remote was missing its cover) but my main concern was that once every hour (sometimes twice) a sort of BANG noise comes from the ceiling.

This place has extremely high ceilings (3-4m) and there’s a fan and a sunroof directly above so i figured maybe one of those things are making the sound.

It’s very loud and kind of scary tbh cause i kept wondering if this meant the fan was going to fall on me or something. So i called the management company and even sent them a video. The response i got was: We talked to the architect and they said it’s probably because of the difference in temperature between the outside and inside which causes the wooden structure to shrink/expand.

This is something I have heard about before but it still feels unsettling to say the least. Essentially they said i’d have to live with this noise going off almost 50x a day all throughout the summer and winter months, but i should be fine in the spring/fall.

My rent is a decent 120,000 (despite being a 13 min walk from the station and not even being in tokyo). It doesn’t really feel right having to pay that much in rent and have to live with a loud bang going off half the year. And they didn’t really send anyone to inspect the noise so what if they’re wrong and it really is the giant fan getting ready to fall and crush me to death?

I genuinely don’t know what to do, if there’s anything I can do, or if i should just accept the answer. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks ahead of time!
