Hotels, Japanese inns hit by cancellations after megaquake alert – The Mainichi

  1. The alert was ridiculously irresponsible of the government.  We do not yet have the technology to predict earthquakes.  And if you actually read it it says “blah blah there is no immediate threat we just think there are slighly above normal odds”

But nobody reads those or understands earthquake prediction models, they all just think “there is a major quake coming tomorrow!”

[edit] gotta love when you get downvoted for pointing out that science is a real thing.

  2. I wished! I looked for a hotel in Tokushima (for the Awa Odori Matsuri) yesterday after reading such reports and there still wasn’t a single room in the whole city available (on the one booking portal I checked).

Edit: I have a room a little outside the center, inconveniently far away from the closest train station, just wanted to go for a more convenient location.

  3. Overpriced to the point of extortion during obon anyways. Can’t say I feel sorry for these establishments.

  4. Ah, that explains why we got an upgrade for the room we booked for next week. Must have opened up due to cancellations.

  5. “These fucking foreigners, I wish they would all die and leave us alone” – Japanese service industry for the last year.

    *people cancel their trips*

“Fucking foreigners, scared of a little thing like an earthquake. Fucking babies”
