Does anybody have expereince of hiring a decorator to strip and rewallpaper a room? What did you pay and do you have any tips on the process?
Update: many thanks for everyone's input. It looks like to get the whole house done I'll be paying about 50万 which I'd really like to avoid. Does anyone have experience of just peeling off the wallpaper by themselves and painting the walls directly?

4-6万/room was about what we’ve paid for decent quality paper and great service. Found a company down the street and had them come over and give us quotes.
We did a few 6畳 rooms and an accent wall in the family room. I think all together it was 20万円 but don’t have any sq.ft numbers for you though. Took 1.5 days.
I would expect a realtor would try to take a fee if you end up going with their guy if you aren’t already pretty chummy.
Maybe Google a few of the other local shops and make it clear you’re shopping around, and have them pop over for a few minutes?
Depending on the grade of wallpaper you looking at roughly 1200-1500yen sqm. That will include stripping the old stuff which should just peel off.
Regarding your update: i painted OVER the wallpaper and the result was very nice. I did a coat of Eco-flat 60 white paint as a primer, then two coats of my chosen color.
